Rain expected in several areas today..

 

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Northwestern and Northern provinces and Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts today, the Department of Meteorology says.

Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, North-western and Northern provinces. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the other areas of the island during the evening or night.

Strong winds of about 40-45 kmph can be expected at times over the Northern, North-central, Northwestern, and Central provinces and in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas around the Island. Heavy showers are likely at some places in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Mannar to Mullaittivu via Kankasanthurai.

Winds will be South-westerly in the sea areas around the island and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankesanthurai and Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankesanthurai and Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil can be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island can be moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
