A complaint has been lodged with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against controversial statements made by first time Jaffna District MP Dr. Archchuna Ramanathan.
Civil activist Gunarathne Adikari speaking to media after filing the complaint said that the statements and behaviour of the new MP were unacceptable.
“He had made comments that the North and East of Sri Lanka were a separate state, after having sworn to protect Sri Lanka’s constitution,” Adhikari said, condemning the MPs statement.
Meanwhile the Campaign for Free and Fair Elections said that Dr. Archchuna Ramanathan’s behaviour was unacceptable, adding that it reflected poorly on the entire Parliament.
The MP made headlines on the first day of the new Parliament after taking the seat traditionally allocated for the Leader of the Opposition.
Dr. Archchuna Ramanathan also made headlines earlier this year after raising concerns at the Chavakachcheri Hospital and was later elected to Parliament after contesting independently in the 2024 General Election.
