Corruption in Sports institutions : Sports Minister makes public request

Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage urged the public to directly report incidents of fraud and corruption within Sports institutions.

He made this statement during an inspection of the Sugathadasa National Sports Complex Authority this morning (28).

Deputy Minister of Sports Sugath Thilakaratne and Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Eranga Gunasekara also participated in the event.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Gamage remarked,

“Let us move forward, leaving behind political affiliations and past shortcomings. However, we cannot ignore the fraud and corruption that have taken place. Our aim is to build a compassionate society, free of corruption and malpractice.

We urge you to report any corrupt activities within institutions directly to us. In the past, this might have been impossible due to the involvement of high-ranking officials or ministers. Now, such barriers no longer exist. Do not hesitate to join hands with us.”

He further emphasized the ministry’s commitment to addressing critical issues affecting the younger generation, such as drug abuse, emigration, and employment security. Highlighting the importance of the Sugathadasa Sports Complex Authority, he stated that it could play a pivotal role in achieving these goals.

“We aim to foster national unity and work towards short-term, medium-term, and long-term national plans. Sports can play a crucial role in promoting unity and advancing Sri Lanka’s international success.”
