President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced yesterday (20) that the Local Government elections would be held before the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in 2025, while the Provincial Council elections would also take place later in the year. The President made this statement during his visit to Kandy.
As part of his visit, President Dissanayake met with the Chief Prelates of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters to receive their blessings. At the Malwathu Maha Viharaya, he met the Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero, where he discussed the current political situation and his recent visit to India. The monks chanted Seth Pirith and extended their blessings.
The President later visited the Asgiri Maha Viharaya to meet the Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thero, who also offered his blessings.
