Sri Lanka’s Finance Ministry announced that there are no plans to close down Sri Lanka Thriposha Ltd, the state-owned company that supplies nutritional supplements to mothers and children across the country.
The ministry’s statement came after Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa claimed the government intended to shut down the company, which serves as a key resource in combating malnutrition.
At a recent gathering in Homagama, Premadasa criticized the government, alleging a “deceptive plan” to dismantle the company. Triposha currently provides nutritional aid to approximately 664,920 mothers and 925,172 children, distributing around 1.6 million packets each month. The program primarily targets underweight children under five, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers facing malnutrition.
Premadasa claimed that the decision to shut down or consolidate Triposha Ltd aligns with recommendations from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), alleging that the measure was authorized by Gazette No. 2403/53, dated September 27, 2024.
