Abhay Verma reveals he had auditioned for The Archies.

Abhay Verma is currently enjoying the success of Munjya in which he starred alongside Sharvari Wagh.

Abhay Verma has grabbed everyone’s attention with his recent performance in Munjya. While the young star is getting immense praise for the film, do you know he had also auditioned for Zoya Akhtar’s much-talked-about movie, The Archies? In a recent interview, Abhay revealed that even though he had auditioned for The Archies, he opted out of the film because he wanted to do the 2023 movie Safed instead.

“Both The Archies and Safed were happening at the same time. I chose Safed over The Archies. I was in the process of The Archies but I really wanted to do Safed,” Abhay said as quoted by IANS. “I had auditioned for The Archies and had met Zoya. But, Safed ka ho hi gaya tha toh I decided to go with the latter (I got Safed so I decided to go with it),” the actor added.

Released in December 2023, The Archies marked the Bollywood debuts of Agastya Nanda, Suhana Khan and Kushi Kapoor. The Zoya Akhtar directorial also starred Vedang Raina, Aditi Saigal, Mihir Ahuja and Yuvraj Menda in key roles.

Meanwhile, during his interaction, Abhay Verma also revealed that he was also supposed to feature in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, which starred Alia Bhatt in the lead. “I wish I could have done that film but I had got another project at that time. But, then a few days after I couldn’t do Gangubai Kathiawadi, I met Alia (Bhatt) for a brand shoot. Just a few days back, I had met Sanjay Leela Bhansali sir for Gangubai Kathiawadi,” he added.

Talking about Abhay Verma’s Munjya, the film is a horror-comedy which is based in Pune and the Konkan region. Besides Sharvari and Abhay, the film also stars Mona Singh in a key role. It follows the story of the eponymous mythical creature who wreaks havoc in the life of Bittu, played by Abhay. It has already crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office.

The film gained majorly positive reviews. News18 Showsha gave Munjya a 3-star rating. “Munjya beautifully draws inspiration by blending elements of horror and cultural depth to weave a story that is both enthralling and deeply rooted in Indian mythology. The movie delivers a good cinematic experience owing to its good writing and the gripping folklore. It is a clean entertainer. It has family-friendly written all over it and has all the elements of a typical commercial horror comedy. This is a must-watch for anyone interested in folklore and horror storytelling,” a part of our review read.
