The Sri Lanka Air Force officially opened its newest golf course, the Eagles’ Citadel Golf Course, constructed to international standards, at SLAF Station Sigiriya yesterday (17 January 2025).
The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) and graced by the presence of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa.
Located amidst the picturesque surroundings of Sigiriya, a renowned tourist destination for both local and international visitors, the Eagles’ Citadel Golf Course has been meticulously designed to enhance Sri Lanka’s tourism potential. The course includes features such as Island T and Island Bay, providing golfers with the opportunity to enjoy a visually stunning environment while engaging in challenging competitions.
The Sigiriya golf course becomes the fourth international standard golf course owned and operated by the Sri Lanka Air Force, alongside existing facilities at Trincomalee, Anuradhapura and Koggala. The new course is equipped with comprehensive amenities, including sports equipment, accommodation and food and beverage services, ensuring an exceptional experience for golf enthusiasts of all levels.
The development of the Eagles’ Citadel Golf Course is a significant step in promoting Sri Lanka as a premier destination for recreational sports tourism, contributing to the nation’s economic growth and enhancing the leisure offerings available in the iconic Sigiriya region.
