Anurag Kashyap in Bad Cop.
Anurag Kashyap recalled his night in a lock-up and how the person he slapped also changed his life.
Anurag Kashyap is currently busy promoting Bad Cop with Gulshan Devaiah. In a recent chat with comedian Samany Raina on his YouTube channel, Anurag was asked if he has ever been to jail. Anurag revealed that he once spent a night in jail because he had slapped “somebody you are not supposed to”.
Answering whether he has been to jail, Anurag said, “Haan gaya hu. Galat aadmi ko thappad maar diya tha. (Yes, I have. I slapped the wrong person). Somebody you are not supposed to.” When asked how many days he spent in jail, he answered, “Ek raat.” (One night).
He added, “Jis aadmi ne mujhe jail mein daala ussi aadmi ne meri life bhi badal di.” (The same person who put me in jail also changed my life). He then mentioned that it was a lock-up, not a jail. Anurag added that the same man was happy that Anurag stood up for what was right and also got him released from the lock-up.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap seldom ventures in front of the camera and treats fans to his acting prowess. He has now teamed up with Gulshan Devaiah for Disney+ Hotstar’s new series Bad Cop, a classic cop vs villain story with a twist. Anurag recently opened up to News18 Showsha about what intrigued him about playing a character like Kazbe, who is fearful and deadly with unique quirks.
Anurag said, “I loved the idea of this guy (Kazbe) who is in prison and he’s operating from there. But he’s very emotionally attached to his family. The idea of a villain being so emotionally attached to his family is very contrasting. He may be the villain but he is not the bad guy all the time. In his head, he’s trying to do business and he’s trying to run a family and he’s having fun.”
The series is an adaptation of RTL’s German show Bad Cop: Kriminell Gut from 2017. The Indian version’s script is penned by Rensil D’Silva and directed by Aditya Datt, known for Crakk. In the series, Anurag will portray the character Kazbe, the villain, while Gulshan Devaiah takes on the role of Karan, an intense cop determined to apprehend Kazbe. The cast also includes Harleen Sethi, Saurabh Sachdeva, and Aishwarya Sushmita in key roles. The show marks Fremantle India’s first fictional series production in India Hotstar Specials.
