Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman reunited for the Netflix rom-com film, A Family Affair.

After more than a decade of appearing together in The Paperboy (2012), Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman are back on the screen with the Netflix rom-com movie A Family Affair. Also starring Joey King, the film has Efron in the role of self-absorbed movie star Chris Cole, who is dating Brooke Harwood, the mother of his personal assistant (King). The actor recently opened up about the film and his character. Efron also revealed how he can relate to Cole’s character in real life.

In a conversation with Parade, the actor reflected on his most recent character and said that it was a “kind of mix” for him as he had felt a few of the same things in the past.

“It’s kind of a mix. I think there are feelings that he’s experiencing that I’ve definitely felt myself at times, but I just kind of amplified some of the ways that I guess he’s more afraid of things. Unfortunately, when you’re going through some of those emotions, you can tend to take it out on the people closest to you, which he does to Zara,” he said. The actor also explained that Zara is probably Chris’s best friend and he can be himself in front of her, which shines a light on their wonderful relationship.

“It’s tumultuous at times, but Zara is always there for Chris, and I think by the end of the movie, you see that Chris really has Zara’s back, and it’s really special,” he added.

Zac Efron On Reuniting With Nicole Kidman

The 36-year-old Baywatch star spoke to People about reuniting with his The Paperboy co-star after nearly 12 years. Mentioning that they had a lot of fun back then, Efron said that he is still “so enamored” with Kidman.

“There’s a part of me that pinches myself when I realize who I’m working with a lot. I think that was more pronounced during The Paperboy because I was a lot younger. I was very nervous back then,” he continued.

Directed by Richard Lagravenese and written by Carrie Soliman, the film’s official synopsis reads, “A surprising romance kicks off comic consequences for a young woman (Joey King), her mother (Nicole Kidman), and her movie star boss (Zac Efron) as they face the complications of love, sex, and identity.”
