Kalki 2898 AD has become the first Indian film to hit $11 million (approximately Rs 90.2 crore) in North America within the first week of its release.
Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD continues to shatter records worldwide. Headlined by Prabhas, the epic dystopian sci-fi has taken the box office by storm. Within just four days of its release, the film has earned Rs 550 crore globally. However, what truly stands as a testament to the film’s remarkable record-breaking spree is its outstanding performance in North America.
Kalki 2898 AD has become the maiden Indian film to hit $11 million (approximately Rs 90.2 crore) in North America within the first week of its release. Announcing the milestone, the makers dropped a post on X. It read, “For the first time, a film hits $11 MILLION in its first weekend in North America. #Kalki2898AD ~ North America ~ $11M & Counting.”
Earlier this morning, trade analyst Ramesh Bala confirmed the worldwide collection of the film on its opening weekend. In a post, he wrote, “At the end of 4-day weekend, #Kalki2898AD has grossed around ₹ 550 Crs at the WW Box office.”

As for the film’s domestic collections, it grossed an estimated Rs 85 crore in India on Sunday. With this remarkable feat, the overall nationwide collection now stands at Rs 302.4 crore. With its record-breaking spree, the film has also surpassed Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. The Atlee directorial had minted Rs 286 crore within the given time period. FYI, Jawan was the highest-grossing film of 2023 in India.
Upon hitting the theatres on June 27, Kalki 2898 AD was welcomed with warm responses from the audiences and critics. Within three days, it emerged as the highest-grossing Indian film of 2024. That’s not all, the film also created history at the box office by becoming the third biggest opener in Indian cinema. Reportedly, it earned a massive Rs 191 crore globally on its opening day. With its huge Day 1 collection, the Prabhas starrer has outperformed the opening-day records of hits like KGF 2 and Jawan. Both the films earned Rs 159 crore and Rs 129 crore respectively on the first day of their release globally.
Kalki 2898 AD boasts a star-studded cast including Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan in pivotal roles. Released in four other languages, the film heavily draws inspiration from Mahabharat. It is set in a dystopian future and revolves around four people. Deepika plays a pregnant woman named Sumathi, carrying a child who is the 10th avatar of Vishnu. Bachchan shines in his role of immortal Ashwatthama who has been tasked to protect the unborn child. On the other hand, Kamal Haasan played a ruthless villain named Supreme Yaskin who wants the child dead whereas Prabhas is seen essaying Bhairava a bounty hunter who is also after the child’s life.
