The Police Media Division has issued a clarification regarding a fake audio recording circulating on social media. The recording falsely claims to be a “special notification by the Sri Lanka Police to the public” linked to the government’s “Clean Sri Lanka – 2025” program.
The audio alleges that the public must ensure the cleanliness of areas in front of their homes and references a section of the Police Ordinance, warning of legal action for non-compliance after 15 January 2025.
The Police Media Division confirms that the audio is fraudulent and no such announcement has been made. Investigations have been initiated to take legal action against the individual responsible for creating and distributing the recording.
