On Neetu Kapoor’s 66th Birthday, A Look At Actress’ Journey

Neetu Singh is one of the most prolific actresses in Bollywood, who ventured into the field of acting at a very young age. She has worked with stars like Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna in her illustrious career. On July 8, the actress turned 66 and on the special occasion of her birthday, let’s take a look at her career.

Harneet Kaur, aka, Neetu Singh was born to Punjabi Sikh parents in New Delhi. Right after her father’s death, she began working. As per reports, at that time, her age was eight. The actress entered the films as a child artist and was featured in the 1966 film, Suraj. It marked her debut on the silver screen opposite Vyjayanthimala and Rajendra Kumar. She further appeared in films like Dus Lakh, Do Kaliyaan, Waris and Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani. For Do Kaliyaan, she was praised for playing the double role of twin sisters. In most of these films, she was credited as Baby Sonia.

It was in 1973 when she secured her lead role in Richshawala opposite Randhir Kapoor. It was a Tamil remake of Rickshawkaran. But the Neetu Singh film did not do well at the box office. As per reports, Neetu Singh’s mother wanted her to become an actress. So, when her first film flopped, she got her daughter to sign up for a bold photoshoot to change the image. Reportedly, this was a turning point in her life. In the same year, she starred in Nasir Hussain’s blockbuster film, Yaadon Ki Baaraat and won the hearts of the audience. She received much praise and acclaim after she grabbed the spotlight for her appearance in the popular track of the film, Lekar Hum Deewana Dil.

Neetu Kapoor met her late husband, Rishi Kapoor, for the first time on the sets of the film Bobby. Reportedly, the actor was dating someone else. But after his breakup, he grew close to the Deewar actress and both fell in love with each other.

The actress has been a part of many projects like Rafoo Chakkar and Khel Khel Mei where her pairing with Rishi Kapoor and their on-screen chemistry was loved by all. She further gained success in Shankar Dada and Maha Chor. Apart from this, she has worked in Deewar, Kabhi Kabhie, Amar Akbar Anthony, Dharam Veer, Parvarish and many others. After she tied the knot to Rishi Kapoor, she took a hiatus from acting.

After 25 years, she made her comeback in Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal. She signed up for Do Dooni Chaar opposite her husband and later co-starred with her son, Ranbir Kapoor in Besharam. In 2022, she was paired opposite Anil Kapoor in Jugjugg Jeeyo.
